Tell your god to ready for more Deadwood.
Twelve years after the series ended its three-season run, HBO has green lighted a movie that will continue the story of the lawless western outpost. HBO chief Casey Bloys made the announcement Wednesday at his TCA session.
Production on the film is set to begin in October, Bloys said, and he's hoping for a premiere in spring 2019 on HBO. Deadwood creator David Milch is writing it, and Daniel Minahan, who helmed four episodes of the series, is attached to direct. . . .

(64,153 posts)they just took this great drama off the air and did not explain how it ended. Ian McShane is a great actor I wonder if the original cast is coming back. What a gritty show, that's the way it was back then, grungy and dirty.

(16,995 posts)Absolutely laughed my a$$ off every time Calamity Jane was on screen!
Saw her later in "Fearless" and was shocked to realize it was the same person - sober and not swearing like a truck driver!

(2,541 posts)That is great news. Loved that show.
Now hopefully all the original actors will reprise their roles. If Ian McShane does not come back to play Al Swearengen it would be hard to watch for that matter Timothy Olyphant as well.

(103,028 posts)Boy, the immensely talented cast have ALL gone on to tremendous success. If we get them all back for this, (especially both Timothy Olyphant and the great Ian McShane), this will go a long way towards correcting the WRONG of the show's early, unexpected and fully unwarranted cancellation.

(1,951 posts)My favorite tv series of all time. I guess this means I will be able to watch HBO shows again. (I swore I would never watch HBO after they cancelled Deadwood so unceremoniously, and I can hold a grudge!)
I hope it really comes to pass.

(7,601 posts)I put it second only to Breaking Bad as the best ever. If the movie is great I will probably put it at No. 1. It had the best dialogue ever written on a tv show and, combined with great actors like Weigert, McShane, Gunn, Paulson, and ther set, just made for an amazing series.
If you can't tell, I loved that show, except for the non-ending. Now it will have one.
