ABC's 'The View' erupted in chaos as Meghan McCain rages about Trump supporters being called racist. McCain began getting angry after Sunny Hostin admitted she wasn’t sure whether the 42% of Americans that support Trump’s proposed wall were racist.

“A lot of people support the wall” McCain said. She added that it was unfair to paint her as a racist simply because she supports strong border security.

“I just said I don’t know,” replied Hostin. “That’s why I am asking the question.” The table immediately descended into a verbal brawl, with everyone shouting over each other.

“You did just call 42% of the country, there was an implication that they could be racist,” shot back McCain. “I am John McCain’s daughter,” McCain yelled, bristling with rage.

TCK: Yes, so true. Now, you mentioned the delusions that white people can have about themselves and their racism. What are the biggest misconceptions white people have about that, and how should white people define racism and understand their role and perpetuating it?

RD: Oh, great question. Misconception number one is what a racist is. Most white people believe that a racist is: one, an individual, two, one who holds conscious and aware dislike of people based on race, and three, intentionally seeks to be mean to them. Individual, conscious, intentional. And by that definition, virtually all white people are exempt from racism. We do not understand that this is a system that is infused across all institutions, traditions, politics, practices, language, norms. It is the system we are all in and none of us could be exempt from its forces.

It taught me how white people see racism. We don't see it as a system of institutional oppression that we are all caught in. We see it as a value judgment.
And we aren't it, other people are though.

I used to say here on DU "All white people are racist." Now I understand that that is not going to get the message across.

White people, let's read this book. It's excellent.

12. Even if every one of that 42% are not themselves racists,

they all voted for a racist.

And, 42% of the country did not vote for Trump. 40% did not vote at all. Her "42%" is, at best, 25% of the country.
