Had to turn off the new Perry Mason 3/4 of the way through the first episode.

Jesus! What a nightmare...

I think if I'm going to watch something so dark, so unpleasant, so squalid, and so thoroughly devoid of hope, I'll watch the news.

It's set during the Depression. I saw the 1930's cars and the fedoras in the promo; I thought it was going to be about an intrepid, streetwise lawyer who gives hope to millions in a time of despair. Boy, was I wrong. I should have turned it off after the first ten minutes.

I thought it looked interesting, but your comments make me think it’s must be awful.

I did like L.A. Confidential, though it upset me a lot. I started reading the book but had to stop a third of the way through, I couldn’t take it.

Thanks for the warning.

I saw an article about it here on DU, of all places! It gave me a good look at what the series would be like.

So my husband and I both watched it, and yes, it's dark and seemingly devoid of hope......but the article pointed the way out to ending with something hopeful.

We plan to stick with it. We want to know what happens next.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you.

than FCC chairman Newton N. Minow said it was in 1961.

How two dozen streaming services that all want a monthly lien on our wallets think they will survive is beyond me.

after watching.

I'll give it one more hour, episode 2, and then let it go if it depresses me as badly as the premiere.

Even "Black Mirror" left me less soul-sick than Perry Mason...

I kind of felt the same way at first, and it is a bit of a slog, but I'm sticking with it for now.

It's certainly not the Perry Mason and Della Street that we all know and love from 60 years ago, but if Perry Mason was Perry Mason in the 1950s, he had to come from somewhere, and that somewhere was WWI and the Depression.

The dead baby thing was disgusting and gratuitous. And the weird angry-sex thing was off-putting, to say the least.

That was just a practical effects flex. Totally unnecessary.

The sex thing I think is interesting. That weird inside-out power dynamic caught me off-guard.

Outstanding production values.

According to wikipedia, Season Two was given the green light in July.

I. Can't. Wait.

him Perry Mason. That doesn't mean it had anything to do with the TV series. That is what they have done - made a show and called it Perry Mason.
