Too many commercials!

Its starting to feel like there are just as many commercials on these days as there is tv show content , Its got to the point for me that i'm losing interest in most tv shows as it seems every 10 minutes or so i have to endure 10+ minutes of commercials. The few shows i still watch are usually recorded on my PVR and the commercials are eliminated through an impressive FF.

1. I haven't had to watch a commercial for a couple years now.

I DVR what I want to watch and skip thru the commercials. before DVR, I used to tape on vhs, watch it later, then record the next episode over it.
I can't listen to the radio anymore either, it's just as bad.

What drives me the most bananas - if you're watching a science show, when they get back from commercial, they repeat what you learned before the commercial cause the 20 commercials they made you watch made you forget what you just learned. Take out the commercials and the repeat info and it's down to less than 30 min of good stuff in an hour.
and cable news is the worst, telling you before and after each commercial what will be coming up later. strip out all the timekilling stuff, telling us just the news would save us 40 min out of each hour!

oh, my. I didn't realize till now just how MUCH I hate the brain suck of commercial tv.

Viva_La_Revolution: you nailed it! Right on!

I could not agree more.

My position regarding commercials is that they should charge more money for advertising and spend less time on commercials and make the same revenue.

And yes, I am absolutely annoyed to tears when so many of the shows like the DIY shows or Science or History channel shows have to repeat everything they said prior to the commercials and then at the end before the next commercials tell you everything they are going to show you coming up!

Arg...! driving me to quit watching TV altogether.

I can connect my laptop to my big screen and watch many shows commercial free, and lets not forget YouTube.

Half hour shows from the Sixties have 26 - 27 minutes of content.
Today's programs are more like 22.

I hate to say it, but in reality, the actual air time of most regular shows on TV are down to 18 minutes of actual show time.

Time to pull the plug on advertisement TV.

At this point i believe they've reached the saturation point with commercials and i'm sure many like me are tuning out or getting into other ways to watch shows like on the computer instead of regular tv.I probably watch half as much tv as i did say 10 years ago, my routine now is to pursue other interests in the evening and the few shows i'm still interested in get recorded on my PVR to be watched when i get up at 3AM.

7. The original "Mission Impossible" shows run 53-54 minutes. Mad Men runs 42-45.

I'd be happy if they'd start putting product placement ads into the shows' content and let the story run for a full 50 minutes again. As it is, I chose not to watch Mad Men this season and just wait until it comes out on DVD in the fall.

11. and to add insult to injury...

and to add insult to injury, now the cable providers are showing advertisements right on the screen while we are watching our shows?

It isn't bad enough that our show contents are now down to 18 minutes of actual air time of the shows, but then they put advertisements for upcoming shows on the bottom of the screens while we are trying to watch our shows.

12. Commercials are parasite to TV

I actually counted 17 commercials in one break. I watched a show yesterday that had commercials every five minutes. It's getting to be Commercial TV with a little bit of show in between. Then you have the informational/entertainment shows that keep repeating what's coming up, so that by the time we see it, there's little difference in what they've been showing as coming up. And they repeat what they said before the commercial, which boggles my mind. So, break it down and we may get 15 minute show for an hour slot. I do have TIVO, but there are times I want to watch the show cause it's on now, but I get so frustrated I just end up recording it and get up and do something else, then come back to it. They don't realize that less is more. In other words, we didn't mind fewer commercials cause we had enough show to make up for it and it gave us time to go to the fridge or stay and watch cause it was bearable and commercials were often funny. Now you're taking quality show away from us and we don't want to watch any of it. Oftentimes, I just give up and turn the tv off. How's that for your tv watchership.

13. This is why I watch TV only via streaming

I dropped cable because all my favorite channels had turned to reality show garbage, and even the occasional watchable show was interrupted by too many commercials.

Hulu has commercials, but they keep them under control, and they minimize them for the foreign TV and movies that I enjoy. Netflix, Amazon Prime, AcornTV, and MHz Worldview have no commercials.

14. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was cut, due to ads
Tue Jan 27, 2015, 02:22 PM
Jan 2015

Either ABC or CBS showed the holiday classic in 2014, and viewers complained that some scenes were cut. It probably had to do with getting all the ads in.
But you're right, some shows have a run of ads during the break that go on for several minutes. I find myself losing patience, and switching channels. What's happening more often, are ads being placed on screen during the show. Quite often the ads will block out the credits (actor/director names), it's irritating!
