I was fortunate to be down in NYC, after graduating from school in '75, hanging with some friends for a 2 weeks. We ended up going to the National Lampoon Radio Show that was running at the New Palladium. It was actually the entire original crew and writers of SNL. I was blown away with the great comedy/writing and energy that they delivered. At the bar, on the way out of the theater section, John and Dan were having a beer and I had to tell them how insanely great they were. I still have the playbill from that show...

Thanks for sharing.

During the mid-1970s, I was part of a circle of friends who played with a youth orchestra. We had rehearsals all-day Saturdays, after which we would agree to meet at the home of one of the brass players (he was a little older than the age range of 12-24, but a damn-good trombonist). We would leave the rehearsal, go home and freshen up and head on over to the house.

It was barbeque and beer (with a little Mahler and Strauss--these were, after all, brass players) and SNL to top it off! Spent many a Saturday evening doing this and saw many classic routines.

For the 1st couple of seasons, it was "must watch" TV for my generation....since there was not VCR/VDRs or internet, that meant most people headed home from the bars on Sat. night to catch the show. My favorite hangout had a term for it...the "SNL effect" - the bar owner told me that his business would consistently drop 15-20% every Sat. night after 11:00.

The 1970s produced some classic movies.

Here he is in "Going South" (1978) with Jack Nicholson, Mary Steenburgen, Christopher Lloyd, and Richard Bradford.

I'd like to have attended the wrap party...
