So, no final season of Breaking Bad for us
No more "The Killing"..and of course no way to start watching the three new hour-long original series that AMC has planned to start this summer..

(533 posts)I switched to DirectTv a couple of weeks ago & am so glad I did. I hadn't heard about this. We enjoy The Walking Dead and Hell on Wheels and would really miss them.
We were with Dish for nine years. I finally got tired of dealing with their faulty receivers. They replaced my HD receiver 3 times in 2 years & it still never worked properly. The new DirectTv setup is so much better I can't believe I waited so long

(103,856 posts)in order to keep Sundance.. I of course had NO idea that they were planning to dump it ALTOGETHER..and the blockbuster thing requires a 2 year commitment..
I called them last night & was told that it would cost me $200 to drop their service..
I may just order Direct TV on a lower tier that includes AMC & have both until the Dish contract runs out..or it may be worth $200 to change services..

(21,925 posts)First, they eliminated ESPN Classic from my package unless I was willing to pay more. I used to like seeing all the old historic boxing matches from times past. Then it was Sundance that had interesting movies you don't get on other channels. Now AMC?????
What's worse is that all of the movie channels, from HBO to Showtime, Encore, Starz, Max and the others that I get seem to be spending less and less money to give me fewer and more rotten movies. They keep running the same old chestnuts night after night, seldom having the best movies of any given year, sometimes showing the same film several times on the same day. And it seems to be taking longer for recent films to show up. And then there are the times when the channels go completely off the air so that I'm paying for a blank screen.

(103,856 posts)For insomniacs, this sucks.. Cable/satellite USED to be the remedy for us night-owls.
and with all the consolidation(cannibalism), channels that used to be good, are now just venues to recycle old network stuff..

(29,673 posts)I've thought about cancelling cable, at first thinking of going to satellite. Now that's no longer an option.

(21,925 posts)Of course it never occurs to them to give us a rebate on our monthly fee if we're getting less and less of what we originally signed up for. Not only are the movie channels spending less and less to give us mediocre movies, but the introduction of new channels like EPIX is adding another layer of expenditure for the consumer. Previously, movies would spend up to a year to get to cable, from the theater, to pay-per-view, to a cable movie channel. But channels like EPIX have been added that show these movies and keep them from the regular cable packages for a longer period of time. Not only are the channels like AMC and Sundance being withdrawn unless the customer pays more, but the product is being withdrawn unless the customer pays extra for new channels like EPIX. Meanwhile, the bill never gets reduced, despite the reduction in programming and programming quality.

(2,166 posts)AMC is still on, but it and IFC has moved to another channel. I like DISH with the exception of when it rains, and the local Weather Channel sucks. But, I probably wouldn't use DISH if it weren't for LINK TV, Current, FreeSpeech, and Veria Living.

(17,055 posts)But I have always heard that DirecTV was the better of the two. I don't use either, I have Verizon Fios.
Here is an interesting article about those two satellite providers that you may find of interest:

Did you sign up for the 12 to 24 month contract with Dish?

(103,856 posts)which they then dropped altogether, it will cost me $200.00 to quit now..

(30 posts)My family has U-Verse and told me that today IFC was rolling a crawler that said the same thing was happening with AT&T: contract problem, July 1st deadline, risking the loss of basically all the same channels Dish customers were losing. I'll ask tomorrow if those are off the air.

(103,856 posts)I guess DirectTV is the only option for now, but it would cost me $200 to switch.. I guess I'll wait a few weeks & see what happens.

(28,784 posts)one day after the show.
It comes out to about $7.00/mo to buy a show this way.
I no longer have any cable. I watched this last season of Mad Men via Amazon and I have all the episodes available to watch whenever I want them.
I'll be doing the same with BrBa this season.
