6. My wife told me today the lean ground beef she buys is $8.97 per pound.

Shortly before The Flood, when I worked in a meat department while in high school, our regular ground beef was 69¢ a pound, 3 pounds for $1.99. Our lean ground beef — “ground chuck” — was 89¢ per pound. It’s now more than10 times as expensive.

7. Checked my one grocery in this small town tonight and they have ground beef from $5.99 or $6.99 a pound...

I might get a couple pounds tomorrow, the $5.99 one...we'll see if it jumps in price...
