Question about Jeopardy 2nd chance contestants...

Does anyone know why the first group players had to play two games and the others only played one?

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday winners play each other in a 2 game match on Thursdays and Friday. The scores from Thursday and Friday are combined and the winner advances. This is the third week of the second chance tournament.
