Forgive me if "Maude" has already been thoroughly discussed here. But...

I'm binge-watching it for the first time right now. I was only 8 when it came out, and my mom wouldn't let me watch it. I was a little scared of Bea Arthur, LOL, cause what I did hear it seemed like she was always yelling at her husband, and always looked mad. I had a hard time warming up to her in Golden Girls.

I absolutely love that this show takes on controversial topics, in 1972! I was blown away that the first episode dealt with "white guilt". I'm still on season one, there's been abortion, living together outside of marriage, nudity, women working vs staying home vs "having it all", and unjust marijuana laws.

And I love that the show still holds up so very well today. That's Norman Lear's doing. It is sad tho, that 50+ years later we're still fighting the same fights. If I had been just a little bit older and allowed to watch the show back in the day, I think Maude would have been my hero.

Also, it's a real treat to see the all the 70's decor. My mom had the exact same Golden Harvest yellow kettle on the stove that's in Maude's kitchen.

And it's bringing back a core memory, I remember people saying "God'll get you for that" for a while back then.

What were your thoughts about the show if you watched it back then?

1. I still like all the old shows, especially the social conscious ones...

But I have to be in the mood to watch them...they take patience now.
