Tough day for HBO fans - Hung, How to Make It in America and Bored to Death canceled!

I liked all three series. sorry to see them go. But HBO will produce something solid in their place. HBO is never short on well written original programming with high production value.

Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and Treme are all coming back!

I'd never seen any of the shows you mentioned though I had been meaning to check out Bored to Death.

Yes, they do produce some great shows. Problem is they have a history of cancelling those shows right out from under the fans. eg Deadwood, Carnivale After that I figured it's not worth it to invest the time and money to get interested in a show knowing there is a good chance it will disappear without a proper ending/resolution. It sounds like HBO hasn't changed that policy.

I wish they'd done a movie and tied up the ends or something.

I liked those three shows. They weren't my favorites, but I'd watch them after I was done watching my first tier shows. I thought it was the best role Ted Danson has had since Cheers.

Carnivale was a favorite of mine, also, and I was upset with the way it was left.

According to the Variety article about their cancellation: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118047762

Among the new comedy series HBO has arriving in the new year are "Girls," created by and starring Lena Dunham; "Veep," with Julia Louis-Dreyfus; "Life's Too Short," with Ricky Gervais; and "Angry Boys," from "Summer Heights High" creator Chris Lilley. Also set to return is the third season of Danny McBride baseball laffer "Eastbound and Down."

On the drama side, Jan. 29 marks the debut of the David Milch-Michael Mann horseracing drama "Luck." The Aaron Sorkin project starring Jeff Daniels, tentatively titled "Newsroom," is looking like a possible summer entry. Also arriving are the return seasons of "Game of Thrones," "Treme" and "Boardwalk Empire."

I'm bummed because I liked all these series as well. I think Hung had slipped a bit from earlier seasons, but I still enjoyed it. I haven't had a chance to check out the second or third season of Bored to Death, but I really enjoyed the first season.
