Related: About this forumAny Downton Abbey fans here?
I know season 2 has already aired in the UK but in the US it'll air on PBS in January. I can't wait!
Anyone else a fan? (BTW-I don't mind spoilers so if you've viewed S2 don't worry about spoiling it for me-I'll watch it anyway.)

(18,161 posts)Our local PBS station showed the first half of Season 1 on Sunday. I'm assuming the rest will be next week. (But that's Christmas so who knows.)
xmas74
(30,051 posts)Downtown Abbey was a ratings blockbuster even for PBS.
My PBS station lists it for this Sunday.

First two episodes are up for viewing online, if you missed anything. I watched it the first time around and am now rewatching it.

(2,151 posts)Looking forward to season 2, thanks for the heads up.
Season two starts on PBS on Jan 8. If you'd like a refresher, season one episodes are up right now on PBS.org

(63,645 posts)My niece insisted we watch it. Totally hooked. Can't wait for season 2.
xmas74
(30,051 posts)Of course, if you really can't wait it's all up on YouTube right now.
I decided I couldn't wait and have been watching it all evening.
(edited to link to very first video instead of episode 4, where I stopped for the evening.)

I'm looking forward to season 2.

(30,051 posts)I found I couldn't wait after discussing it and found all of season 2 on Youtube. I've watched it all night tonight.

(30,051 posts)Are you watching the Christmas special when it comes out too? I've bookmarked the person on YouTube and will be watching her page for the download. She seems to download quite a few Brit shows.

(41,832 posts)I just got through watching the Second "season" of Cranford. I have a real love of those PBS period shows.
xmas74
(30,051 posts)I really love most of the period pieces, especially the ones that they usually choose on Masterpiece. The YouTube account I linked to in another post has quite a few BBC/ITV downloads. Netflix also has quite a few period pieces, which makes the $8 a month worth it.
Luciferous
(6,586 posts)I'm a wannabe Brit lol
xmas74
(30,051 posts)It's a period piece-nothing too racy and lots of fun. I've watched it with the kid and she enjoyed it too. (Of course, she's reluctant to admit it.)
If you have Netflix there are lots of period shows on there-PBS, BBC type shows. It's the only reason I subscribe. At $8 a month I more than get my fix of shows. I've recently watched Bramwell and have rewatched Upstairs, Downstairs on Netflix but there are plenty of others on it, including lots of Austen.
Luciferous
(6,586 posts)caught dead watching any period piece shows with me, so we watch anime together
xmas74
(30,051 posts)She'll begrudgingly watch them if I give her no other choice. Of course, once she sits down and actually begins to watch it quickly becomes obvious that she enjoys them.

(36,385 posts)I'm a bit wary of Christmas specials, but this one was just amazingly awesome. And the ending was so good!
xmas74
(30,051 posts)and loved it. The only reason why it was a Christmas special was because the beginning happened at Christmastime.
Violet_Crumble
(36,385 posts)I was relieved when I realised it was set around xmas time and was carrying on the story from series two. Thank goodness series 3 willl air late next year. They can't leave the whole Mr Bates thing hanging. And I want to see Sybil reappear with the chauffeur...
xmas74
(30,051 posts)But I'm sure she'll be back for season 3, since she has big news.

(25,423 posts)Christmas special here? Is it incorporated into the series or a one time show that I know they aired in the UK.
xmas74
(30,051 posts)I can't go into what happens but there are things from Season 2 that develop in the Christmas Special and the ending of it will definitely be the start of Season 3. I don't see how they could not show it in the US.
MaineDem
(18,161 posts)I saw it listed on Netflix although it's not available yet.

(56,177 posts)Just bought the DVD of season 1...had taken it out from the library and watched it twice...will watch it a third time right before season two starts!!!
xmas74
(30,051 posts)Season two, along with the Christmas episode, is all over the internet. I've already watched both but have every intention of watching them again in January.
It's become significant enough that one of the characters is mentioned in an end of the year television list for American viewers. Lady Edith was voted one of the most annoying, obnoxious characters in television this year because she wrote "the letter".
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)I wonder if that will be on the Season 2 dvd???
xmas74
(30,051 posts)Maybe they'll show it as part of season 2 on PBS.
If you have a facebook account you can watch the first ten minutes of season 2 right now.

(56,177 posts)Sort of as a teaser, but want you to wait for the second season to begin on PBS or until the DVD comes out.

MaineDem
(18,161 posts)You are Lady Sybil Crawley. The youngest daughter of Lord Grantham, youre compassionate, strong, and really concerned about social justice. Youd also like to be able to vote. The bravest and most idealistic member of your family, youre the most likely to end up at a political rally, try and help a servant to a better job, or scandalize your sisters by wearing pants to a party.

(56,177 posts)Thing is, most of the options for responses were not what I'd choose...
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Liked it, not sure where they're going with some of the characters although Mary and Matthew is OBVIOUS. They're making O'Brien and Thomas slightly likable/understandable...thought maybe they'd give Thomas a romance, but apparently not with that guy!
xmas74
(30,051 posts)want to make O'Brien and Thomas a bit more understandable, if not likable. O'Brien talks about her brother and expresses pride in her work-makes comments along the lines of how what she does is a skill. And Thomas is shown more as someone who maybe didn't come from a happy background, which explains a few of his actions.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)He says he gets to be really nasty this season...I didn't see it in the first episode or the Christmas episode, though.
MaineDem
(18,161 posts)What's the story with Mr Bates? Is he being honest with Anna?
Thomas is a creep.
I was so disappointed it was only an hour. I wanted it to go on and on. I get so involved in the story.
xmas74
(30,051 posts)I already saw the rest of the season, along with the Christmas special.
There's lots more to come with that story!
MaineDem
(18,161 posts)Just know that there is more to their story.
I want to live in that village. Maybe if my family hadn't left England in the 1600s, I would.
