i am a new subscriber to direct tv, after 15 years with dish. it's a lot cheaper for me now (60 vs 100 a month), but i can't seem to get over the way the channel guide is set up. i HATE the ads for movies stuck in there, it's so distracting! does anyone know how to get rid of them? thanks...
In your settings you can make a custom guide. You go thru all the channels you get, mark the ones you wanna keep. It takes a minute. But worth it. I got rid of all those channels and the tons of shopping channels.
Menu, then settings. Should be channel guide or something. Im not in front of my tv so I can't say for sure. But it's pretty easy to find and do.

(4,851 posts)Take the time to do the custom menu, its makes DTV so much better and easier to use. There are lots of cool setting options, so play around with it.

(21,670 posts)i was referring to the ads that lie between the tv programs on the channel guide. after fiddling with it for awhile, i don't think i can delete them, they just come with direct tv! but as far as favorites go, yup, i have that figured out.
thanks

(4,851 posts)they are not there on my tv in my living room, where I have set up the custom menu, they are there on my tv in the bedroom and in my kids' bedroom, but they do not have the custom menu set up. Call DTV and ask them, they are pretty good about helping with these things.

(61,675 posts)remember that you can switch to the other list, "All Channels That I Get" on long weekends when they give you premium channels for a couple of days so those channels show up in your guide. Then you can switch back to your custom list when the preview is done.
We have the HBO package.
One of the things I like about DirecTv is their customer service.

(4,851 posts)we have been with them for 15 years, we get free PPV movies at our anniversary date and I call every 3 months and change my pay subscriptions like HBO and Showtime, there is always a deal so I always get two for one, all year. I just have to call every 3 months and move them around to whatever the deal is.
