The Returned marathon

Last edited Sun Dec 1, 2013, 02:26 PM - Edit history (1)

Sundance channel is running 5 episodes of this series tomorrow--Dec 1-- starting @ 3:45pm PST according to the schedule I found. I've been trying to catch this series for weeks and keep missing it, so for anyone wanting to catch up, here's a chance.

Found it on iTunes - 3 bucks per episode - same as Amazon. But thanks for the tip. patricia92243 Dec 2013 #10

I think I'm going to have to watch it over and over and over…I love it but some of the scenes are confusing…the last scene in the first episode for example. did the little dead boy cause the bus to crash?

And I agree, it is kind of confusing. I'm hoping it will become more clear as the episodes go on. (I think I'm on the third one right now) But I like it, definitely a different idea.

And the commercials are driving me nuts!! I've started coming in to check DU to get away from them!

But still have a lot of questions. I hope the 3 episodes left to air will wrap it up and not leave a lot of lose ends. (To me it looks like the little boy did cause the crash) Overall it's good imo.

…and you're right, the little boy did cause the crash. He'd been "deader" longer than the rest.

I think its really good too, but I had to watch each of them twice to get it, but I think that's mostly because I was trying to pay attention to the details whilst trying to remember my HS French and/or read the captions!

Amazing show. Best thing on TV right now.

I can't wait to see what the black outs and the falling water level have to do with the returned people. (Actually, I can wait. Don't spoil it for me...lol.)

And yeah, Victor's a straight-up killer.

When I was looking, the only place I could find to watch it at all was on the Sundance channel. They have been running marathons with all of the episodes shown so far. Here is a link to their schedule. Looks like the marathons are on Sundays, and the next one will be next week, the 15th.

I have no clue as to what is going on, just enjoying the novelty of it all so far. But I'm interested in theories.....

My theory? The dam actually broke as the series started. Everyone there is dead in limbo, and the 'returned' are those who went before coming to welcome them to the other side. That's why nobody can leave.

If a whole community were actually cut off without power, civil authorities would have swooped in PDQ. Think about it- where is the water going?

I wouldn't know where to begin trying to come up with an explanation as to what's going on. You could be right, but I hope not as it would be like LOST redux! And I think I read that there is another season made, so how long would it drag on without some answers? (Again thinking of LOST with what, 5 or 6 seasons, and I hung on for all of them!)

I hope the explanation is a good one, and we get it or most of it in the final episode.

But I was disappointed. I guess I knew that it was all so convoluted that whatever answer they came up with was going to make some people unhappy. I don' t know how they could have wrapped it up in ANY plausible way since they had so many story lines that went all over the place. Yes, I have very mixed feelings about that series.

And yes--fingers definitely crossed!!

18. Anyone catch the US version of this show?

ABC's 'Resurrection' is supposedly 'based on' The Returned.

Seems the premise is a bit different, not quite so dark and moody (typical for US adaptations of non-US shows, I suppose).

eta: My wife corrected me.. this series is 'inspired by' Les Revenants, not 'based on'. So I expect it'll diverge quite a lot.

But I want to try to catch it on demand or a rerun if I can. I loved Les Revenants, and I did think the trailer for The Returned looked a lot 'lighter' if you know what I mean. The original was dark and eerie, which I liked, so I don't know how this one will go over. I don't have much faith in American adaptations, but I will give it a chance and see.

As was another French movie.

So I'm giving it its own universe, no comparisons. (Though I still want to have some of Les Revenants questions answered!!)

According to the wiki page, a second season is in production.

Let's hope that they actually answer some questions. My theories are marked spoiler above.
