First up... Boardwalk Empire says the 5th season slated to start this fall will be the last:

Next up... Or down... Is Justified. They just started up season 5 and have announced that season 6 will be the last:

With 2 season of notice, I really hope Justified will do something really special.

(102,447 posts)If it were on HBO or even AMC, I think the audience would be on a "Breaking Bad" scale... I think a lot of folks don't think to watch FX. Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins--and the entire cast are REALLY good.
Boardwalk Empire has been enjoyable, but I can see it winding down.

I also found out that The Fall, starring Gillian Anderson, will be back in production this spring. If you like murder stories, this one is different, I think.

(22,340 posts)but would rather see it go out while it doesn't completely suck. It is still awesome but has been going downhill seasons 3-4.

(31,213 posts)Six seasons would be enough. I enjoy watching Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins but it's been pretty much the same story for a few years now.
That season 5 premier was one of most violent episodes yet.

(7,720 posts)My guess is that they do not have the actors under contract for anything after next season. They cound not make it work financially to keep producing the show because the salary demands of the actors would make the show not profitable enough. This happens quite often in the television production business. Some shows attempts to eliminate key cast members and continue production (see The Practice) but it usually is not a successful plan.
