Anybody see Sherlock last night?

Are they getting too far from the original concept of Sherlock Holmes?

1. I watched it Monday morning.

I was a bit shocked, but I suspect they had to move it beyond the original. It's a modern world where women have careers, too. I liked the twist. And Watson isn't the uninteresting character either.

2. Love this show.

Every week I am amazed that the writers continue to write such top notch episodes. I have been a Holmes fan since Basil Rathbone played the character and am also a huge fan of Jeremy Brett and his portrayal. Elementary never disappoints, and Cumberbatch has captured the essence of Holmes in the modern day. I think the writers are breathing new life into the original concept in a creative way that never fails to entertain.

3. Which episode is this? The 3rd one of the season?

I cheated and watched it via other means a couple weeks ago.

I've been dying to talk about it since I saw it, but I don't want to spoil it if it hasn't aired in the US yet.

Are you English, what's up with three episodes qualifying as a season?

Is that customary for British TV shows. I know each episode is like an hour and half long but still.

Are you okay with Mary being pregnant? Children in Sherlock that's wired for me.

5. No, I'm in the US, but I have friends in the UK who point me to where it can be *cough* acquired.

I'm okay with Mary being pregnant, but..

Sherlock taking a gun to a guy's head? *BLAM*

Not out-thought. Not out-maneuvered. No trick up his sleeve. Just.. *BLAM*

That is soo not a sherlock-ish ending to that episode. Especially since having this season start with the elaborate set-up to fool Watson.

And the psycho-babble about Watson 'knowing' about Mary, somehow, deep down? The thing that I enjoy about the Sherlock mythology, is that on second viewing, all the clues are there. You can smack yourself for not identifying them, but- they're there.

This psycho-babble? Again, out of character. And no, I'm not being a purist, I just think this was.. too much of a stretch from the source.

6. Season three was certainly different than the first two, but that's okay ...

the writers are exploring and introducing new characters and the dynamics created therein. Happens in all series. Keeps it fresh.

7. Well, I'd argue that it's not a Sherlock-ian take-off if there's no out-thinking.

Might as well make Sherlock a crime-solving pro-wrestler with a chimp as his sidekick, 'Watson'.

I'm still rather pissed, and I watched this episode two weeks before it aired in the US.

8. Anybody see Sherlock last night

it wasn’t good at all. When you have to alter the entire way established characters would react just to achieve a plotline, you are pushing an agenda. And Martin should have resisted the urge to get his woman a job. Let me ask you this–in the show’s canon, what happened to the last person who pointed a gun at Sherlock, in John’s presence? Um, yeah…
