Madam Secretary (Updated CBS orders a full season-22 episodes)

Last edited Tue Oct 28, 2014, 09:30 AM - Edit history (1)

Did anyone else catch the premier on Sunday night? If so, what did you think?

I thought the show was great and it's going to be a hit. Love the cast and Barbara Hall.

I didn't care for her in the promos, although I would like to see Bebe Neuwirth. Plus I was recording two shows at once so I couldn't add a third! So many choices!

I'm not a fan of hers either, but her character is quite interesting. The first episode stuff about Syria, which seems appropriate given how much is happening there (I won't say specifically so I don't ruin it if you decide to watch). The executive producer Barbara Hall was the EP for Joan of Arcadia, which I was a big fan of.

You might be right about waiting to see if it lasts. So many shows are run for a few weeks and then end up in the recycling bin. It's hard to commit to one if you know you are running the risk of it getting canceled. That happened to me last year with The Crazy Ones. I was so disappointed about that and then shocked by RW suicide.

The other one I'm considering watching is State of Affairs with Katherine Heigl. I think Madam Secretary looks like the better of the two though.

about the real world in DC and decisions being made, especially for Tea Bag simpletons.

But of course, they aren't likely to watch a show with a woman in power in it.

once again screwed up. He put on the 2nd episode without even telling me we had not seen the first.

And the first didn't record properly because of football or something. I hate that crap.
So we only have half of the first episode on tv, the rest we'd have to see in my office computer and
he'll never do that.

This man is not holding the control during my shows anymore. He does this all the time

I feel the same way about my wife when she has the remote. My advice is make a list and tape it over the TV. Sometimes you can find episodes on Hulu or the network site, but I can't get that here.

If you miss one, worse comes to worst I'll email to you

That was important for my husband, who already decided before viewing the program at all
that he would hate it. And he said 'don't say it's because I can't stand women in power'.
But, that is why.
And now I can't get him to watch the first episode.

I'll watch some with him, but not all of them it's just too much.

Can't stomach Ancient Aliens anymore; even the sound of the voice-overs drive me insane now after 8 years of it.
Can handle a little of the new show that spun off of Ancient Aliens, with the guy with the weird black hair. Has more actual
visuals and less stupid chatter and jumping to conclusions (main conclusion of Ancient Aliens being that humans couldn't learn
to wipe their own butts unless an Alien being showed them how to do it).
The Strain plus every other show about dead people becoming mobile.
Aliens, and more aliens.
Anything that mocks the concept of God...which I refuse to watch at all.

She thinks I change the channels and run the shows by mind control or something. She picks up the remote and looks at it it like it was something that some alien dropped from a space ship until I ask her what she wants, at which point she asks me to turn the volume down.

The last episode was actually really good. I especially thought the scene with the father in the restaurant was quite interesting.

The very end of the episode was really what I had hoped to see out of it. It is finally getting good.

I'm gradually catching up with it. I've seen 3? episodes now, the last one having the scene in which Tim Daly (the husband) refuses to compromise his integrity by giving the Russian's daughter an A. I like the ensemble cast & I think Tea Leoni is a believable Secy of State. I'm glad they're not making her (or the other females in the cast) be frou-frou & wear décolletage clothing at the office. Also glad they don't feel they have to make her a bumbling fool and/or loser in some way, the way other shows with female central characters do.

Too many people give up on a show after one episode. The ratings haven't been that great, but apparently they aren't quite bad enough to cancel.

State of Affairs is the one coming up next month starring Katherine Heigl as CIA analyst. I've got that one on my list. My mom said the same thing about that one (it's so funny to hear you say almost the same exact thing she said). I'm going to give it a shot because it looks interesting. They do seem fairly similar, even though the leads are about different people. It will be interesting to see how they differentiate from each other. I personally thought waiting until mid November to start a series is kind of setting it up for failure. It makes me wonder just how much faith they have in the success of the show.

Did you ever get the remote back from you husband? lol
