Homeland may SCRAP Muslim storyline after Charlie Hebdo attacks

The U.S television show Homeland may not feature a Muslim storyline in its next season, it has been revealed.

A new threat could be chosen in the fifth season ‘for creative reasons’ – and not because of the deadly attack on the headquarters of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris last week.

Each of the first four seasons of Homeland have featured fictional Middle East terrorists and Muslim extremists.

But producers are considering moving away from the format and finding a new target for CIA case officer Carrie Mathison - played by Claire Danes - when the show makes a return to screens later this year.

According to insidetv, the attacks in France last week will not play a part in deciding who the story’s next villain will be and will not prevent producers from tackling sensitive issues.

Personally, I hope they don't.

I haven't seen the current season yet because I don't get Showtime but I have seen the others via Netflix and it is a very well made production. The scripts are very good and the acting couldn't be any better. I particularly like Daines and Patinkin. Maybe North Korea will be the next bad guy and maybe the loss of the Indonesian airliners will figure in as well.

...but it was much better this year than last imho...

I like the idea of expanding the threat from just Arab/M.E. guys...but the characters areas of expertise are in the ME so i'm not sure how easily they could make that transition...

It would be somewhat of a stretch for the scriptwriters to make a drastic
geopolitical change given the backgound of the central characters.
