It's very good, and, if I may indulge myself a bit, leading man Aidan Turner, is to die for.

(29,051 posts)My husband and I watched the earlier one and he wasn't enthused about watching this one -- until he watched the
first episode.

(6,251 posts)The production values are amazing, like a Cornwall travel video.
But I still prefer the 1975 version. It was mostly filmed on set, with little of the beautiful exterior shots of Poldark 2015. However, Poldark 1975 spent more time on the secondary characters, giving a much broader sense of life in the 1780s, and helping me to understand Ross' character and decisions. And Robin Ellis was pretty easy on the eyes, too!

(29,051 posts)but I honestly like this one better for other reasons as well.
For some reason, the first one didn't interest me much,
and I can't remember what Mr. Ellis looks like, but I'll
take your word for it!

(29,051 posts)I'm not sure when it will be released, but it's in the works.
Meanwhile, if you find Mr. Turner as fetching as I, you might head on over
to Amazon.com and pick out some TV/Movie selections in which he appears.
I bought a mystery in which he's a lead called "Alarm" and found it quite enjoyable!

(28,394 posts)I will definitely look forward to Season 2. It is the kind of show that you still think about days later. I love it.

(1,945 posts)I have been watching and enjoying it. I kept thinking I recognized the actor playing Poldark and realized that it's Kili, one of the dwarves from The Hobbit. He was a knockout even as that character. Very handsome!
I also watched the original series and enjoyed that very much. There was a youtube video I watched a week or so back that was on the Making of Poldark, the first one, and it was very interesting. Interviewed the original actors and gave some good background on the series.
My only complaint about the new series is that it seems like every 5 minutes they have to have a scene with Ross galloping his horse back and forth on the road from place to place. There must be a better way to show that he has gone from one location to another. Now I dread its inevitability, almost a joke now....oh the galloping horse scene is coming next!
Glad to hear that there will be a second season.

(29,051 posts)I'm probably the only person alive who has NOT seen The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings...Guess I'll have
to see it now.
I know what you mean about the galloping around...Reportedly, the actor had never been on a horse
before and had to learn for the role. That aspect doesn't bother me much. In fact, very little bothers
me about this show. If I had a criticism, it would be that the title character is a bit too virtuous, too 'heroic',
if you will, to be believable.
But that's a minor complaint in light of it's virtues.

(29,051 posts)I love the little old servant whose repeated personal mantra is:
"T'isn't right, t'isn't fair, t'isn't fit, t'isn't proper".
I don't know his name, but he's a marvelous character actor who turns up in quite a few British productions..

(21,856 posts)Yes, He is in so many good things. I first saw him in Quadrophenia (he was very young back then). He had a great role in the newer Sherlock series. He was great in Bleak House (a BBC production that was on here too years ago -- Highly Recommended). He was in Whitechapel. He really can take on different characters. He does show up in a lot of British productions. I just looked at his IMDB page - he's a busy guy!!

(29,051 posts)I saw part of Bleak House when it aired here. It looked intriguing,
and I can't remember why I didn't get to see it from start to finish.
On the basis of that recollection, Phil Davis, and your rec, I will check it out again via Acorn or DVD.
