I know expectations were high, and it was his first "real" show and all, so I'll give him a few months to settle in and find his audience. As it was he was "too smart for the room," at least in the beginning. Too many strange references and the whole bit with the ram's head was more creepy than funny.

I changed channels halfway through George Clooney, who I thought was a terrible choice for a first guest. Neil DeGrasse Tyson would have been my first choice. He's smart and funny and would have set the tone not only for this show but for the ongoing series. As it was we had Clooney, who is past his prime, and Jeb!, who is W's "smarter" brother.

The bits with Jimmy Fallon at the beginning and end of the show (I turned back to listen to the music) were classic Colbert.

Clooney really didn't have anything to talk about. Jeb is such a prick.

The other thing is the show actually ran over and taping was 2 hours instead of an hour, so they had to edit the show down and it still ran over by 5 mins. Then there were problems with the uploading of the show to the network. According to what Colbert told Variety the first show almost didn't air.

but I'll give it more time. I turned it off after that dumb bit with the ram's head. wtf? I DVR'd it, so I'll check out the interviews later.

Larry Wilmore took a little while to hit its stride, too.

Eating on TV is bad. Eating on TV for minutes at a time is excruciating. Yikes. And the Oreo's came after minutes of "Look at ME! LOOK AT ME! I'm on TV!!!!" What a disaster.

I never did get his appeal in the first place. And I had to look up his age- he's showing it. He's an old man and getting older. So glad I cut the cable. Paying for a service that rots your brain is a curious thing indeed.

I haven't seen Friday's episode yet. As I said earlier it takes awhile to get them here in Asia.
