Tucson Mayor, Council working to ban ICE from city property

The city of Tucson is pushing back against federal immigration enforcement.

In a study session on Wednesday, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and the city council said they hope to implement multiple policies that would limit what ICE can do within the city limits.

They discussed a motion to ban ICE operations in city-owned places without a warrant.

“Across the country, federal immigration enforcement agencies have increasingly relied on local government property such as parking lots, garages, vacant parcels, parks, and public facilities as staging areas for civil immigration enforcement operations,” Mayor Romero and Vice Mayor Lane Santa Cruz explained in a memo.
