New in town (state), what advice for a desert newbie?

Good things to do, cool things to see, dumb things to avoid. Out here in Waddell it is a drive to anywhere, but that doesn't intimidate an ex plains stater.

All the usual new place questions.

That aside, Howdy Neighbors! (snerk, I was never very good at Kansan, even while I grew up there.)

Take extra water everywhere you go, and the stuff in water machines tastes 100% better than the lukewarm stuff from the tap. and every 20 years the sewer roaches grow wings and fly. and the Grand Canyon.

that's about it.
Good luck

Thirst tells me to do that ( ;

Went up to the Grand Canyon daytrip last November, will eventually spend more time there.

Uh huh, flying. If they do it in synchrony those aren't roaches, we had flying roaches around the yardlights in Ks.

Thank You, I'll take it ( :

trip. Check out Slide Rock while you are in that area.

Lowell Observatory outside of Flagstaff (or any of the museums in that area) is fun to visit.

Maybe we should have thought about hauling water. (It seemed like all the northern properties would have required us to haul in our water)

We'll end up taking a vacation inside the state.

Down here in Baja Arizona, we have such delights as the Arizona/Sonoran Desert Museum, the Reid Park Zoo (World-class giant anteater breeding center!), Fourth Avenue..all in Tucson, alone.
Further south is Bisbee, if you ever wondered where all of us hippies disappeared to. Probably the coolest town in the known Universe.
Oh, yeah...and there's me.

Dad is already curious about the mountains, but at 90 he can't go terribly far on foot.

My interests? Food, exotic spices, baking (going to have a solar oven or else) and FRPG's (Maybe choral music if I'm not toooo rusty)

But, Yes!

Once we finish unpacking.

Which means it will be cool weather again ( ;

Joking aside:

the northeastern and northwestern parts of our state are for -- the cool weather. Unpacking is better than packing, imho. I'd say have fun but it is not always a 'fun' job just a necessary one so I will say, "Enjoy the Renaissance Faire."
