Tucson News Now:"The working poor need options as well as assistance"

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Helping the working poor isn't simply providing more assistance or bringing back unemployment cuts. It requires helping those who need to work get better jobs by giving them more flexibility. That point was just one made at a community discussion on poverty at the Fox Theater Wednesday night.

"Beans and some canned goods," Blanca Robles said as she showed some of the items she picked up at the Community Food Bank Wednesday. She said that she makes ten dollars an hour.

Her husband works, too. But once a month, she comes to the food bank.

"We go paycheck to paycheck and there's a lot of other bills we have to pay and there's clothing, shoes and everything," Robles said.
