(23,156 posts)30 or so people killed with guns. A school shooting tends to get a bit more notice than others, but we never quite read about all of them, do we?
I keep on wishing that for a month every single newspaper would cover every single death by gun on the front page, and every single nightly news report would lead with them. They'd shove out all other news, and maybe then people would finally get it about how dreadful this is, and maybe we'd finally have some actual movement on getting rid of guns.
I'm not holding my breath. I read in this mornings newspaper that the father of one of the survivors of the shooting in Oregon last week isn't planning to meet with Obama when the President visits Roseburg today, because he (the father) is opposed to any gun control. If he's that okay with his daughter being shot, then there's no hope. And in the same article the crap about the school being a gun-free zone is repeated. There were reports early on about how a lot of students abandoned guns as they fled the campus. So where the hell WAS the "good guy with the gun"?

(8,308 posts)It just broke my heart to see the picture of the lovely young man who died. A new student, a bright future erased. This occurred after an altercation in a parking lot after a party, so it won't get large media play. But that in no way diminishes the horror. My heart goes out to the families and all the people there on that beautiful campus.
