there was a post in meta about the spam (we got one too) that might be the sort of thing a host could address, and there is the ability to pin topics (if it ever got busy in here....ok that might be a reach)
I wouldn't mind being one if for no other reason than having access to the host forum
I'm going to do this as an edit because I wanted to put this info in and make it a little more "official" because whoever is the first host needs to link the deciding thread to the request, so here is what skinner says in his host post (forgive me):
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1013434
What to do if you want to serve as a Host? (THESE INSTRUCTIONS HAVE CHANGED)
If the members of your group decide to select a Host, then you must decide who will serve as the first Host. The DU Administrators will assign ONLY ONE host to each Group, and then it is the responsibility of that Host to select other members of the Host Team (if anyone else wishes to serve).
Hopefully in most Groups, selecting a first Host will be a simple matter of awarding the job to the first person who posts in the Group to volunteer for the job. If more than one person is interested, then you need to discuss the choice of Host amongst yourselves until you come to some sort of consensus regarding who should have the job.
If you want to serve as a Host of a particular Group, the first thing you need to do is post in that group to let the members of that group know you are interested in serving as the Host. If a consensus is reached and you are chosen for the job, then -- and only then -- you can report back to this thread and let me know.
Post a reply in this thread telling me which group you have been selected to Host. Include a direct link to your post in the group where you want to serve. I need that link in order to give you host powers.
I will only assign ONE host to each group. After that first host has been assigned, then that first host has the power to grant host status to anyone else. So, if a host is already assigned to a group, then you need to contact that host to become a host.
Good luck selecting your Hosts.

Ok lets make this official, can we get a few nominations or votes or something? Not sure how many need to chime in but I will go ahead and give this some more time.
Ptah
(34,122 posts)I'm already a host somewhere else and the Host Forum is a valuable resource.
Edit to add: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1013434 tells how to become a host.
Kali
(56,829 posts)as long as they let me be one too (hee hee), but I will go ask admin anyway. You want to be added too?

(5,050 posts)actually Ptah was first and he added me and OffWithTheirHeads, but that was the test week before official launch. we all got taken off automatically at that time
I have no problem with him if you all prefer. As I said we probably don't even need one except for some minor house cleaning type stuff. (and dog knows, that isn't my forte in real life LOL)

(10,337 posts)I'll vote for whoever raises their hand. I mean, really, it's not like we get a lot of disrupters. Hell, we can barely get Az. DUers to post here.

(56,829 posts)maybe I should go look who posted in the DU2 AZ group and try to find them here for a PM/heads up.

(5,989 posts)I have not interest in the job myself ... my visits to DU and to the AZ forum specifically are to sporadic and inconsistent to make a good host.

(3,872 posts)The great part is it's got us all communicating here.
OffWithTheirHeads
(10,337 posts)I've done some research on the subject and given it some thought and if you don't want to be the host, I'll do it. Since there are only about 13 subscribers to this group none of whom show disruptive tendencies I don't see that hosting would be much work.
In the interests of full disclosure, If I'm the host, I'll allow almost anything Arizona except personel attacks.
I'm curious. It seems if I understand the stated purpose of the Arizona group is to discuss Arizona politics. In the year that I have been here, that has not exactly engendered much in the way of lively discussion. Would anybody object to opening the door a little wider to allow pretty much anything Arizona?
A few things just off the top of my head.
Arizona gardening. Growing things in this climate certainly presents challenges unlike anything I've experienced before. Last spring we planted three types of tomatoes, several types of peppers, a small herb garden and a Bogainvilla. Pretty much everything failed except the Bogainvilla. I'd certainly be interested in some imput from those more successful than I.
The Wildcats. I'm not really a sports fan but my BIL is a mucky muck at the UofA athletic dept so I'm kind of forced to pay attention. Arizona sports in general. The Diamond backs did real well last season. Hell, I'd even be willing to disciss the Sun Devils not withstanding the fact that in my household such discussions are tantamount to blasphemy.
Guns. Guns are certainly a uniqe aspect of Arizona culture. I'm not talking about RKBA. If you want to go there you can go to the gun group and wear out your keyboard arguing that stuff. I'm thinking more along the lines of what do you have, what do you use it for, where do you go to play with em etc.
I don't know, maybe I'm just blowing smoke here but It would be nice to see a little more activity in the Az. group.

(56,829 posts)and if they assign me I will add you (and anybody else that wants on board - and you can add others as well) since this thread seems to have a decent number of members ok with it.
