some local science

I give you the Schmidt sting pain index for hymenoptera

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schmidt_sting_pain_index

my father did some photography work at the Carl Hayden Bee lab when he was an undergrad. connections, mannnnn

I have said before of the local regular stingers around here, harvester ants are the worst (and I live with scorpions). hadn't been stung by one in a few years, but my luck ran out this morning. so nerd that I am I went a-googling. yep they are a 3 out of 4. and it runs up the lymph system. stung on the inside of my lower leg just abouve the ankle and I am feeling it now in my groin and left abdominal area. whew, makes a scorpion sting feel kind of like a cake walk (NOT REALLY)

One of the wee, chitinous monsters climbed up my pants leg two years ago and nailed me high on my inner thigh.
I swore, and assassinated the brute.
It took weeks and several tubes of cortisone to get over it. It also took two cans of ant pellets to eradicate the colony.
I danced me a savage dance of vengeance around their mass grave when it was all over. Lo, I am Shiva, destroyer of worlds.

they are really kind of interesting, they can learn to adapt to activity around their nests and not be so aggressive. there is one nest in the driveway that will crawl on you if you stand right on the entrance, but they don't actively seek out to sting if you are walking around or doing something nearby. further out, away from normal activity they will come for you if you are within 20 feet of an entrance.
