Beebe alderman pleads guilty to violating election law by voting twice
BEEBE A Beebe alderman has been fined $750 after pleading guilty to violating election laws after he admitted voting twice in this year's primary.
Prosecutors agreed to lower the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor for David Pruitt, which means that Pruitt will still be eligible for re-election this year. Pruitt calls the incident an "honest mistake" and tells The Daily Citizen (http://bit.ly/2aQ1QRx) that he pleaded guilty because he wanted to take responsibility for his actions.
Prosecutors say Pruitt cast a ballot during early voting for the primary election then voted again on election day March 1. An affidavit says that Pruitt told investigators that he thought he was voting in a different election March 1.
On Tuesday, Pruitt pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge and immediately paid his fine.
