No Guns on Campus at University of Arkansas, Board Votes

http://arkansasmatters.com/fulltext?nxd_id=665982

STUTTGART, AR - No guns on campus is the decision for the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees.

The panel voted this morning at Phillips Community College in Stuttgart (photo below) to opt out of Act 226 and not allow faculty/staff to carry concealed handguns on campus.

The issue has been debated for months at universities across Arkansas.

So far, all of them have voted to opt out of concealed handguns in classrooms and will keep the security in the hands of those wearing a badge.

Update (11:15 a.m.):
JONESBORO, AR - Arkansas State University's board has voted this morning to opt out of a measure that would have allowed concealed guns on campus.

No, it's just that the GOP hasn't realized they need to focus on college sinkingfeeling May 2013 #7

Yup, sometimes a combination of "off" student and gun can have tragic results Art_from_Ark May 2013 #13

background checks. Our past moderate leadership in this state were term limited out but that doesn't mean the rest of the state have lost their minds or spines. Remember, it's only the loonies who are quoted and are on tv - moderates not so much.

boards of trustees yet. They were able to take over the state House and Senate last fall and then pass all of ALEC's and the NRA's craziness, but they overlooked the fact that there are still sane people on school boards.

If they ever make it legal to bring guns onto the campus, I will quit. I've had too many mentally "off" students over the years. I don't need someone with a gun coming into my office to dispute a grade.

as happened in the case of the late professor John Locke.

I had a seminar class with him once. He seemed like a pretty decent guy.
