California's minimum wage increase $6.75 per hour to $7.25 per hour, effective January 1, 2006

There have been minimum wage hikes since.

Under existing law, California's minimum wage will increase from $9.00 per hour to $10.00 per hour on January 1, 2016. This measure increases the minimum wage to $11.00 per hour, effective January 1, 2017, and by $1.00 each of the next four years, to $15.00 per hour on January 1, 2021.

Below are the effective dates, prior minimum wage and new minimum wage by date and amount.

July 1, 2014 $9.00 $8.00
January 1, 2008 $8.00 $7.50
