Despite saying she wanted plenty of U.S. Senate debates, Democratic Rep. Loretta Sanchezs campaign consultants have not responded to a formal request from media partners, including The Sacramento Bee, which was first issued in June.
Democrat Kamala Harris frontrunner campaign for the states first open Senate seat in 24 years announced early this month she would participate in the proposed Sept. 20 debate. In addition to The Bee, the sponsors were KUVS Univision 19, KVIE, Capital Public Radio and California State University, Sacramento.
The media partners sent both campaigns a proposed format on Aug. 15 and asked for a response by the close of business Monday to allow about four weeks to plan the event. Her campaign did not respond or return messages left Tuesday.
Sanchezs refusal to communicate runs counter to earlier statements made by her chief campaign strategist, Bill Carrick.

(6,355 posts)...as a public service to allow voters to understand the candidates, a debate has been scheduled between the two candidates with the agreement of their campaigns. We have asked both campaigns for input and incorporated that input into our planning for the debate.
On 9/20...with two podiums on the stage...have the debate with whoever shows up. If it turns into a 90 minute standing interview for Harris, so be it.
Com'on guys, in high school when one debate team doesn't show up, the team that does gets the points.
This is no different that one Faux News gives Donald a couple free hours of air time to bloviate and then says "we made the same offer to Hillary and have heard no response". The don't NOT give the air time to Donald because of no response.
Alas, it'll probably not happen this way...but a liberal can dream, can't he ?
