California sex offender found guilty of murdering 4 women
SANTA ANA An Orange County Superior Court jury quickly found Steven Gordon guilty Thursday of kidnapping and killing four women, shortly after the convicted sex offender admitted to being responsible for the violent deaths.
Little more than an hour after jurors began their deliberations, Gordon watched impassively as a court clerk read the verdicts finding him guilty of first-degree murder for the killings of Kianna Jackson, 20; Josephine Vargas, 34; Martha Anaya, 28; and Jarrae Estepp, 21.
With the conviction for multiple murders, and the jurors determining that the killings took place during kidnappings, Gordon is eligible for the death penalty. His alleged accomplice, former friend Franc Cano, will be tried separately.
Before the verdict, Orange County Superior Court Judge Patrick H. Donahue warned family members of the victims watching from the audience to avoid any outbursts of emotion because jurors must return to court next week for the penalty phase of Gordons trial.
