San Diego paying $12.5M to family of infant killed in Point Loma stroller crash
San Diego will pay $12.5 million to a family whose infant daughter was killed in Point Loma two years ago when she was struck by an SUV as her father was pushing her stroller through a crosswalk.
The family will receive an additional $5.5 million from the driver of the SUV and nearby property owners that the family has blamed for allowing foliage to obstruct views near the intersection of Catalina Boulevard and Canon Street.
But the familys lawsuit says the city was primarily to blame for the crash, contending the intersection suffers from lack of signage and poor visibility that city officials never addressed despite receiving numerous complaints.
Some have also questioned whether it makes sense to have a crosswalk in an area where vehicles travel at relatively high speeds, contending that may give pedestrians a false sense of security.
