Jungle primaries?

One of the pundits on TV - don't remember who - commented that even if Diane Feinstein will come second in the primaries, the "jungle primaries" will still have her as a candidate during the general elections and she will win all the votes of the not far-left voters.

Yes, I think that this is a good system, to prevent extremes of either sides, but never heard it describes in these terms.

And, as I am writing this I wonder whether any third party candidates, like Ms. Stein, even made it to the 2016 general elections if the rules - as I understand them - call for the two top winner of the primaries to be the candidates

1. I voted against "top two" in Ca. in 2010. My opinion hasn't changed.

Too easy for Repugs to finesse this system...run one or two single candidates when Dems have many in the same primary. It's already happened in Ca in a majority Democratic congressional district... where two Republicans emerged as the finalists from a field of many good Democratic candidates. Voila, that District had to choose between 2 Repugs & ended up with a Republican Congressperson. Write in votes are prohibited.

Also keep in mind that Republicans historically vote at much higher % in primaries and especially down ballot only primaries. The instance above is not the only time this will ever happen I expect.
