6,000 firefighters continue their efforts in containing 10 active wildfires still burning in California. Yesterday, strong winds in Southern California rapidly spread a new wildfire in San Diego County. After a week a cooler weather, temperatures across the State are continuing to rise, and will hit triple digits by Monday in Southern California.

Red Flag Warnings remain in effect across Southern California as gusty winds and low humidity have increased fire danger from Santa Barbara County down to San Diego County. Winds are expected to be strong, with gusts up to 55mph. In response to the increased fire conditions, CAL FIRE has added extra staffing. Learn more. A Fire Weather Watch has also be issued starting Monday in Kern County due to forecasted gusty winds and low humidity.

Since the start of the October Fire Siege on Sunday, October 8, CAL FIRE responded to 250 new wildfires. At the peak of the wildfires there were 21 major wildfires that, in total, burned over 245,000 acres, 11,000 firefighters battled the destructive fires that at one time forced 100,000 to evacuate, destroyed an estimated 8,400 structures, and sadly, took the lives of 42 people.

1. We are on alert in San Diego.

It will be 90+ for a few days. This is the anniversary of the Witch Fire (2007) when 1,700 buildings were destroyed and 200,000 acres were burned. The Cedar fire was in 2003 and also occurred at this same time in Oct. San Diego schools closed for the first time in their history for a week during each fire. It jumped across over 15 lanes of a major freeway merge and burned almost to the ocean and would have destroyed expensive La Jolla if the weather didn't change at the last minute. It burned 300,000 acres and 3,000 buildings.
