Attorneys for Ghost Ship defendant granted public funds for defense

OAKLAND — One of three attorneys for Ghost Ship defendant Max Harris was granted public county funds to continue his representation of Max Harris.

Harris, is awaiting trial on 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of 36 people at the Ghost Ship warehouse fire on Dec.2, 2016 in Oakland. His lead attorney, Curtis Briggs, has so far represented Harris since June, on a pro bono basis.

Briggs asked Judge James Cramer to consider appointing him as attorney — but appointed by the court, paid by Alameda County.

In court on Tuesday, the judge said it was a “complicated and involved case,” and that Briggs had spent a great deal of time on it so far, and is knowledgable on the case.
