Related: About this forumConcealed Carry in CA?
I'm hearing rumors of this possibly being voted on or something. Has anybody heard or read anything? This doesn't sound good to me.
Thanks!

(14,559 posts)Is working it's way through the Senate having already passed the house. If it passes Trump will sign it.
That means that because some states allow concealed carry without background checks, training or ANYTHING all states will have to allow those people to carry when visiting. It also means that states that offer on-line CC licences without hands on testing to out of state people will have those CCs honored in every state.
So much for "state's rights".

(24,330 posts)I think such a law will have a tough time in the courts.

(14,559 posts)"state preemption" laws for guns so that local government entities cannot pass ordinances that conflict with any state statutes. Only for guns mind you. Cities and counties can control cats, dogs but and your kids not guns. The necroguniacs seem to think the 2nd preempts EVERYTHING, Heller v DC notwithstanding.
Florida had to amend it's state laws concerning private property to prevent gun ranges in urban yards. Seems a Yoyo set up a target range on his .1 acre city lot and the city of St Petersburg couldn't do anything about it.
I don't think state preemption has even been challenged but I'd be interested in seeing what the SCOTUS thinks on the subject.

(24,330 posts)Instead of blanket state wide laws, they pretty much leave it up to county Sheriffs and Police Chiefs in municipalities. Most of the more highly populated counties pretty much make it impossible for the average citizen to get a permit. Rural counties with smaller populations are much more likely to give out CC permits. Some require nothing more than a clean criminal record, others require an application process that is a little more extensive and some sort of training classes.
