Big Wins in California Legislature!

Democrats are now leading in 58 out of 80 California state assembly districts - a gain of 3 seats. There are also two other assembly seats where the Democrat is closing in:

District 16
Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D): 49.40%
Catharine Baker (R): 50.60%

District 38
Christy Smith (D): 49.90%
Dante Acosta (R): 50.10%

Since the late-counted ballots are tending to favor Democrats, Democrats could gain a 60-20 majority in the state assembly! Even at 58 seats, this will be the largest assembly Democratic majority since 1883!

Additionally, in the California state senate, Democrats have gained two seats, and will have a 28-12 majority!

This should be good news for moving progressive legislation! I'm proud of my state.

Ah, I don't think the turnout will be shown to be low ultimately. David__77 Nov 2018 #2

There are many more ballots to count. The secretary of state website shows 41% turnout: https://vote.sos.ca.gov/returns/status

In 2014, the final turnout was 42.2%: https://elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov/sov/2014-general/pdf/2014-complete-sov.pdf

The thing is that the 41% value for this year will keep increasing as counties report more votes. And there are an estimated 4.6 million to go: https://elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov/statewide-elections/2018-general/unprocessed-ballots-report.pdf?_ga=2.204776976.1080198650.1541823523-2052417091.1531853670

If these values are right, the turnout will be 62% when all votes are counted! That compares with 75% during the 2016 election.
