Holy hell, this afternoon the wind shifted or something and now I'm living in an ashtray.
We're not in any danger from the fires at the moment, and I wish no one was at all, but I'm gonna have a pity party for a minute here over my throat burning and eye watering...

(5,721 posts)Aside from the smell of smoke everywhere, there's straight-up ash particles in the air. Not enough to affect flights, but I've never seen this before.

(36,389 posts)Cripes, ash is nothing new, but it seems like it's becoming a yearly event. This year is weird because the wind hasn't been all that strong and all this shit just seems to park right on top of me.

(7,715 posts)We had a coating of ash on our outdoor steps and on our car. The stench of smoke/fire was very apparent, and it was very smoggy in the East Bay hills. I didn't realize it was this bad until this morning.
I think the heatwave and the stagnant air is greatly compounding the issue, much like November 2018, until it finally rained just before Thanksgiving and cleared things up.
So we have Trump, Covid-19, the plague (in California), and locusts/cicadas in some parts of the US. We now add fire/ashes. Besides the free-falling economy, what else can go wrong?
