Recall Newsom organizers hit significant milestone for getting on the ballot

KABC

RecallGavin2020 leaders say they have collected 1.5 million signatures, hitting the minimum number needed to get on the ballot. They plan to continue circulating petitions through the March 17 deadline as there are always a number of signatures that get disqualified upon review by elections officials.

Organizers of RecallGavin2020 say the effort is driven by issues such as: "Unaffordable housing. Record homelessness. Rising crime. Failing schools. Independent contractors thrown out of work. Exploding pension debt. And now, a locked down population while the prisons are emptied."

Two Republicans have already announced plans to challenge Newsom, either in next year's re-election or in a potential recall vote: former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and businessman John Cox, who lost to Newsom in the last election.

I hope most Californians don't blame Newsom for things he couldn't control.
And just in case, I hope a progressive Democrat runs in the recall.

1. If Newsom is recalled, there will be plenty of good Democrats running. What can hurt us though

if the recall is successful, is there will be too many candidates, and that could increase the odds that a republican could get in

Hopefully it won’t be like the Davis recall, where it was a complete circus

That being said, I don’t think Newsom will be recalled, but if he is, the odds favor Democrats as long as they get out the vote

2. I've been worrying about this for a while, before it got to this juncture...

a well funded cabal headed by Newt Gingrich and another name I never heard of and can't remember right now, has been funding this effort since the start of covid shutdown that I'm aware of, but I feel like I read it started before then.

It is possible for Repuke to grab this office, and if that happens we're fucked all the way to the U.S. Senate.

Feinstein needs to resign her seat before this recall election, so that Gavin can appoint a Dem that can win easily in the next election.

Secondly, We need to turn out the vote in a very big way to keep this office, as well as all of our State and Congressional seats, hopefully flipping a few others.

3. National Republicans donate $250,000 to Newsom recall effort

L.A.Times

“It’s now on the national scene, as it well should be,” said Anne Dunsmore, campaign manager for Rescue California, one of the groups leading the effort. “Everybody should be on notice — they can’t run over their citizens with poor policy. I think it’s a very good sign. We welcome their activity.”

Newsom’s campaign spokesman Dan Newman cast the injection of RNC cash as an act of desperation from a “dying party in California” that has “not won anything statewide in 15 years.”

“It exposes what has been abundantly clear from the beginning, that this is a Republican recall, a partisan political ploy,” Newman said.

He added that state voters have other priorities, such as vaccinations and reopenings, rather than a special election that could cost as much as $100 million.

Hopefully, wasting their money.

I was in CA the last time they pulled this shit.

CA Democrats need to take this shit seriously, and then, they need to change the rules so that 1.5 out of 40 million can't pull this shit in the future. That's not even 1% of the population.

We better understand that CA is the Brass Ring for these Nazi fucksticks.

I remember "chuckling" about the prospect of the "governator", right up until he became the head of the 5th largest economy in the world.

Actually, it’s 3.75% of the population.

I think it should require at least 20% of the population, and if you were eligible to, but failed to vote in the election you now want to recall, your signature should be rejected.

8. I guarantee you a huge number of these signatures will be fake.

This is what happens when you pay people per signature to collect them. Republicans will fake, forge, lie, cheat and steal every chance they get, and this is a situation where it works against them. And the validity of the signatures will be adjudicated by a Democrat.

Also don't forget that if a republican becomes governor, every statewide office is held by a Democrat and we hold supermajorities in both houses of the legislature. A republican governor will be virtually powerless. I do agree that the Feinstein situation needs to be addressed.

10. From the OP article: 16% disqualified

A Jan. 6 update from the California Secretary State's office indicated that about 16% of the 723,000 signatures turned in by that point had been disqualified as invalid. If that validation rate continues, they'd have to collect a minimum of at least 1.8 million to qualify.
