1. I can always count on good, ol' Berkeley to

remain peaceful and loving. When Milo and Anne Coulture (free speech, pro-tRump) were trying to stir up trouble 4 years ago they didn't get too far.

Course 3/4 of my life was lived within 30 miles, so ...

3. I first went there in 1985

and would've stayed if I could get an apt. Back then they had rent control and it was impossible to find anything affordable. I discovered Amoeba Records and Moe's Books (both still there).

At least if they were, I wasn't aware.

Or did you mean on a subsequent trip?

Cause in 1985 we were all about Rasputin Records in Berkeley.

5. I spent a lot of time shopping at Rasputin's too.

I did go to the Amoeba Records in SF as well as the one in Berkeley. I wish there was one in San Diego but if there were, I'd be broke. The last time I was there my friend had to take half of the albums out of my arms before check-out.

It was just a ways down Telegraph from where we always parked which was near Rasputin's, and more importantly, Blondie's Pizza and/or Top Dog depending on our mood

So we often didn't make it down that far as we stumbled around, usually really baked ...

8. When I lived in Lafayette I remember browsing Rasputin's in Berkeley.

On Telegraph Ave IIRC. Awesome vinyl & CD collection. There was also a Rasputin's in the East Bay, by the Concord mall. At that time I probably bought about 90% of my CDs from those 2 locations.

Man, I miss the arts & crafts fairs they had every year before Christmas. They closed several blocks of the north end of Telegraph (to the university) & the street was full of vendors of cool hand-made items. I always found great unique Christmas gifts there, & well as items for around the house.

10. It's like you could be me, cept I'm from WC ... though I went to Elementary school in Orinda

and LOTS of my friends back then were from Acalanes in the 80's when I was in HS.

I went to Rasputin's in Pleasant Hill (and the Blondies next door) so, so many times. I have so many CD's with Used - Rasputin tags on the front.

12. I spent time in WC, let me try this from memory...

...great places to eat/drink. Pyramid Brewery (one of my favorite hefeweizens), a seafood place nearby, WC Yacht Club I think, & I was there when a new Cuban place opened around the corner, I forget the name. Crepes-a-GoGo (?) was great. Brunch at Scott's Seafood was always a treat, out on the patio by the waterfall. And that exotic car dealer nearby! I loved looking at Lamborghinis & Ferraris & whatever else they had in the showroom. And that's where my Kaiser GP & neurologist were, at the Kaiser hospital, with Trader Joe's across the street.

Oh man the memories. I'm happy where I am now, but I'm also very glad I got to live 20+ years in the East Bay & work in SF. (Although I don't miss the commute! I spent waaaay too many hours riding BART.)

On 9/11/2001. I watched 9/11 from a bed at WC Kaiser. In a lot of pain.

Ever go to the Hickory Pit aka Emil Villas that's behind the hospital (and across the street from my Alta Mater, Las Lomas High School)? I've been eating there since the 70's. And it's barely changed in that entire time.

I vaguely remember the Cuban place opening I want to say early 2000's. Pyramid is something else now. Not sure if the Yacht Club is still there haven't been by that street in a lot of years. I want to say that's Cypress Street, it just connects Main to California, and Scott's is at the end of it. Which is a great place

My mom retired from John Muir Hospital in WC after like 15 years there about 10 years back.

and Grant back in the day, down from Berkeley High. My first presidential vote was there for the Gus Hall/Angela Davis ticket.
