Contra Costa deputy bails out of jail same day hes booked on manslaughter charge, wont appear in court for more than a month
MARTINEZ Contra Costa Sheriffs Dep. Andrew Hall was released from jail Thursday night, a few minutes after he turned himself in on a $220,000 manslaughter and assault warrant related to a 2018 incident when he shot and killed a Newark man on the job.
Hall was charged earlier this week with manslaughter and assault with a semiautomatic firearm in the death of 33-year-old Laudemer Arboleda, whom Hall shot and killed during a chase through the streets of Danville in November 2018. Hall later testified he believed Arboleda was going to run him over, though video shows him continuing to fire as he steps out of the path of Arboledas car.
Hall turned himself in at the Martinez Detention Facility Thursday and posted bail a short time later, authorities said. His next court date is more than a month out it has been set for June 2 in front of Contra Costa Presiding Judge Rebecca Hardie.
Contra Costa prosecutors decided to charge Hall more than two years after the shooting, an unusually long investigation that District Attorney Diana Becton said was the result of her decision to reformat how police shootings are investigated by her office. Becton has denied a public statement by Halls attorneys that said the office previously cleared Hall. This newspapers request for documentation from any prior decision is still pending.
During the two-and-a-half year period between Arboledas killing and the charges being filed, Hall shot and killed a second man, 32-year-old Tyrell Wilson. That shooting remains under investigation. Video shows Hall approach Wilson, warning him that hes under suspicion of throwing rocks at cars and jaywalking. Wilson pulls a knife and tells Hall not to approach him. When Wilson takes a half-step toward Hall, he fires at Wilsons chest.
