Two California RV parks fined $750,000 for allegedly making public beaches seem off-limits

Campland on the Bay and Mission Bay RV Resort allegedly had signs surrounding the properties stating that beach access was private and for use by their guests only.

The California Coastal Commission reached a settlement with the parks, which are both public trust state tidelands, to ensure the surrounding area knows the beaches are available for all.

"They had a bunch of signs up saying that it was only for private use only, and that it was only for guests of paying customers and their website promoted it like a private luxurious beach," Lisa Haage, Chief Enforcement Officer of the Commission, told KGTV.

The groups agreed on using the $750,000 for free summer camps for underprivileged youth. The parks will also be required to remove any signage that could confuse the public into thinking the beaches are private.
