A second Boyle brother is running in Benson recall election

BENSON – Another Benson resident frustrated by Aluminum Dynamics Inc.’s plans to operate an aluminum recycling facility in the city is running in the upcoming council recall election, and if successful it could mean two brothers serving together with opposite positions on ADI.

George “Mark” Boyle filed a Statement of Interest on Jan. 15 and has been busy circulating nominating positions to get his name on the ballot for the May 19 election. He has until 5 p.m. Feb. 18 to submit enough valid signatures to the city clerk.

Boyle, whose brother Patrick is one of the four current city council members targeted for recall, has spent months on the front lines against ADI’s proposed secondary smelter. He is a frequent contributor to the No Aluminum Benson Plant page on Facebook and supports the Health over Wealth Benson lawsuit seeking to overturn a height variance issued for ADI in 2024.

But Mark Boyle insists he is not against bringing jobs to Benson. Instead, he is against what he sees as hidden information, rushed and illegal approvals, and ignored community voices. All of which he says is putting the health of residents, farms, ranches, orchards, and the San Pedro River at risk.
