Orange Officials Place 1% Sales Tax Measure on November Ballot After Indecision

Orange officials quietly placed a one-cent sales tax increase on the November ballot that, if approved by voters, would last 13 years at a special meeting one day after the June primary election.

On Wednesday night, Orange City Council members voted 5-1 to place the sales tax measure on the ballot without much discussion during a less than 20-minute meeting.

Councilman Denis Bilodeau was the dissenting vote and Councilman John Gyllenhammer, who previously voiced opposition to the sales tax, was absent.

Orange City Council members previously struggled to agree on the components for a sales tax increase measure city-hired consultants previously said is needed to avoid municipal bankruptcy.
