I am on the email list.
Here is part of a PDF update from Covered California

RATE OF APPLICATIONS COMPLETED NEARLY DOUBLES
COVERED CALIFORNIA TAKING IN 10 THOUSAND PER DAY
Momentum for Enrollment Increases More Than Threefold
SACRAMENTO, Calif. The number of applications completed for Covered
California has reached more than 10,000 a day. During the week ending Nov. 16,
71,188 applications were completed, with applicants eligibility for premium assistance
or no-cost or low-cost Medi-Cal determined.
As of Nov. 19, Californians had completed 360,464 health coverage applications and
had their eligibility determined for premium assistance or no-cost or low-cost Medi-Cal.
This is a clear indicator that our enrollment system is working, demand for health care
coverage is strong, and Californians are embracing the benefits offered by the
Affordable Care Act, said Covered California Executive Director Peter V. Lee.
Of the applications completed, about 39 percent or 135,000 will likely result in Medi-Cal coverage for currently uninsured or underinsured individuals.
The tremendous interest in Covered Californias health coverage options has been a positive influence to motivate those who are uninsured to take advantage of their new coverage options, said Toby Douglas, Director of the Department of Health Care Services. It is very encouraging to see that the rate of approvals for Medi-Cal continues to increase.
The rate of enrollment in Covered California health plans has also increased. As of Nov. 19, 79,891 Californians had selected a health plan. Compared with the first week of October, during which about 700 people a day selected a health plan, the enrollment rate nearly quadrupled by the second week of November, to about 2,700 plan selections per day.
The increase is mirrored by Medi-Cal, both through Covered California and by applications processed by county health agencies. In October, county human services agencies processed 270,670 applications, a 30% increase over the previous month.
In October, Los Angeles County, where pricing regions 15 and 16 are located, had the largest number of enrollments, totaling 6,978, including subsidy-eligible and nonsubsidized consumers. San Diego County, Orange County and San Bernardino/Riverside counties followed closely.
Expanded data about those who enrolled during October shows that 18- to 34-year-olds are applying in direct proportion to Californias population.
Not only are we seeing strong enrollment numbers overall, but enrollment in key demographics like the so-called young invincibles is very encouraging, said Lee.
Of the 30,830 individuals who enrolled during October, 22.5 percent, or about 6,900, were between 18 and 34 years old. This group makes up about 21 percent of the states population.
English was by far the predominant language of those who enrolled during October. Covered California anticipates a more diverse language mix in the coming months, with greater in-person enrollment, as language-specific outreach and marketing rolls out in November and December.
The enrollment numbers so far reflect a tremendous demand for health insurance, which will only grow stronger as the facts about Covered California health coverage options spread across Californias diverse communities of language and culture, said Lee.

(68,644 posts)I was ready to pull the trigger on a $654 gold plan but he suggested we look at the $544 silver plan with identical annual out-of-pocket costs and only slightly different co-pays.
Math for my monthly savings:
COBRA cost me $1,432.49 - $544.41 = $888.08
Color me delighted!
Coverage set to begin 1/1/2014

(68,644 posts)You can only shop on the website and then click a "contact me" button, which doesn't inspire confidence and which doesn't sign you up.
You can download the 36 page application and mail it in, or do it in person, or on the phone.
Searching further, I found listings of nearby agents who might help and nearby agencies and thought about doing it in person.
Instead, I called the help line as I left on my two mile 40 minute morning walk.
I was on hold for 25 or 30 minutes, but Osama was super helpful and we wrapped it up over the phone and even made a three-way call to my doctor's office to be sure they were in the system I wanted.
Not bad!

(39,303 posts)That part confuses me. I did it with an agent and he said that no one has received any approval packet from the IRS, I think it's the IRS that does the first part.

(39,303 posts)I'm guessing you applied before I did. I just did it last Wednesday and haven't received any kind of confirmation. How long was it before you got that confirmation?
I have to double check that the Blue Cross agent didn't screw anything up. He was pretty cynical so might not even realize that things are working..
He said no one has gotten anything. Well here we can see you have -- but I'm guessing the IRS had to check you out and that you started a month ago?

(68,644 posts)Osama might even have sent it before we got off the phone.
The IRS or Experian checks are only needed if one is eligible for subsidies or medicaid, but I'm not eligible.
That makes a difference, I'm sure.

(39,303 posts)Well that makes sense. They have to do their thing with the financials.
But imagine if it's true what Ralph said, not one application has been processed.
That's a lot of work to do in a week..
My guess is that the deadline for payment will be delayed, but I'm sure insurance peeps won't like that much.

(3,998 posts)in early Nov. and still haven't got a confirmation by email or snail mail. I don't qualify for subsidies so I don't know what is up. I've been trying to get thru by phone for 2 weeks and can't. I'm on hold for at least a half hr every time I call, I always have to end the call because, well, other phone calls or LIFE. So frustrating. I'll try again this a.m. at 8 sharp.

(68,644 posts)30 minute wait but I walk every day.
If I didn't walk, I could have been raking leaves while on hold or something else.
Also, I think it's 24 hours.
Also, you can go into the public library and sign up in person.

(3,998 posts)I need to ask if my application has been processed. I tried calling again this morning several times and they are so busy they disconnect me.
