Hurricane Marie to bring large waves to the Bay Area

The Bay Area is bracing for bigger-than-normal waves generated by Hurricane Marie in the Pacific.

High surf is already hitting the Southern California coastline. Southern California beaches could see the biggest waves in 17 years thanks to the hurricane spinning off Mexico's Pacific Coast. Surfers were enjoying waves up to 10-feet high yesterday and it's expected to peak today with waves possibly reaching as high as 30-feet. That would be biggest wave event at the popular surf spot The Wedge in Newport Beach since 1997.

The National Weather Service says beaches up the Southern California coast would see large waves and rip currents. Surfers and swimmers are being warned about the dangerous conditions.

In the Bay Area, waves are expected to peak at about 6-to-8 feet today, with tomorrow expected to be the biggest day.
