CA-16 went from D (sort of) to R last night. UPDATE: It's switched.

Last edited Sun Nov 16, 2014, 10:43 AM - Edit history (1)

We lost a Congressional seat. Costa (blue dog, BARELY a Democrat) lost to an actual Republican. A whole lot of Hispanics were pissed off at Obama for delaying immigration reform and didn't show up to vote.

UPDATE: As of last night, Costa pulled ahead but there are still provisional ballots to be checked.

Incumbent D Steve Fox lost to R Tom Lackey in the 36th Assembly District (Antelope Valley--Palmdale and Lancaster).

What was astonishing about the very negative campaign on both sides was the amount of money that must have been spent on the constant dueling TV attack ads and endless glossy mailings.

Again. I'd like to say I was surprised but I'm not.

Btw, I'll be out in your neck of the woods (Hesperia) for Christmas. I'll wave.

The attack ads from the R side in this Assembly race were damaging; from the D side, unfair and they were seen that way. Nobody trusted Fox, who seemed to try to make up for his lack of charisma by showing up all over the place at local events for photo ops. He always struck me as an opportunist, always schmoozing, with no real character.

Naturally another Republican (Tony Strickland) was just elected to replace McKeon, who is retiring as U.S. Rep from CA-25.

I'll wave back from the front lines of the War on Christmas.

It used to be theirs until Costa took it back about 10 years ago. I think Obama coming out and announcing he would not move on Immigration reform until AFTER the election had a huge impact on Hispanic turnout. People were furious and several announced to me they weren't going to vote this year. Many have had families deported and many have family members about to be deported. This was a terrible move on his part and all for trying to win over a few red states, which he lost anyway.

I'm not in 16 so I'm not sure how much Costa campaigned but I know any Republican that runs around here gets lots of Big Ag money that the Democrats just don't get.

It's terrible. Hispanics are disengaged. Not just this time but for all other elections as well. As a gringa there's no way I can get a handle on the causes except to say it seems like they feel disenfranchised, even when there are Hispanics running. Beyond that, I got nothin'.
