Sympathy for Rep. Jared Polis

Jared Polis has been visciously attacked by both sides in the fracking debate.

First, the "Log cabin Republicans" had some nasty ads against Polis' attempt to regulate the fracking industry. In fact had the "Log cabin Republican" mark not been put on the ad, most people would have called the ads homophobic. Indeed, the truth is that these turkeys were really OIL CAN REPUBLICANS who could care less about Coloradol

Then, after making a deal with the oil industry to stop four ballot measures in November's election, Polis was attacked by our allies against fracking. Whether Polis was right or wrong to make the deal, is a tough call. The oil industry has been advertising almost continuously for months in favor of fracking. In the past, the oil industry advertised against raising taxes on oil revenues to the level of surrounding states. The fear tactics worked and taxes were not raised.

Polis supported two reasonalbe amendments to regulate fracking that give local governments more control and make the distance from homes and wells a least 2000 feet. The oil industry supported two RIGHT WING EXTREMIST measures. Extremist Initiative 121 called for withholding state oil and gas revenue from communities banning drilling, while EXTREMIST initiative 137 required a fiscal impact note for all initiatives. All of these are no longer up for a vote because of the deal. The oil industry initiatives reek of right wing extremism a-la Koch brothers. Honestly is would be nice to shove these EXTREMIST measures up their -----.

Democrats should be committed to getting America off of their oil cans and away form the devils of the oil industry.

I think the anti fracking amendments were sensible and could have won. I signed petitions for both. Not the first time I've disagreed with Congressman Polis, but he's reasonable and responsive and I agree with him far more often.
