Anyone interested in cosplay for progress?

Fred Clark at Slacktivist mentioned the idea of kickstarting the hire of the actress who played Septa Unella* to follow oh, say, Paul Ryan around, ringing her bell and shouting "Shame! Shame! Shame!" at town halls and events. No Paul Ryan, but Ken Buck, Cory Gardner, Doug Lambourn and most of our state lege Rethugs could use some shaming. As of today, it seems like it's time to kick up our game. Calls and letters don't shame them into doing their jobs, so we have to externalize it.

Septa Unella is an easy cosplay -- a $20 maxi dress, a head scarf, some rope and a bell. And the willingness to stick to the script of one word, and be thrown out of a place.

As the Austin Handmaids proved, that one is also relatively easy and effective. That one needs a group and it's a silent protest. Red dress, red cloak, coif and bonnet.

Costumes are symbols, and they get a diverted attention. When in costume, the costume takes the attention, rather than the person inside the costume. For those of us with a level of social anxiety, it can be much easier to protest in character than as individuals, and as a group than as one person in a crowd.

*Game of Thrones character -- a true believing priestess/nun character who participates in the public shaming of a thoroughly unpleasant, malicious character.
