Gov. Lamont vetoes three bills

Gov. Ned Lamont vetoed three minor bills Friday evening that were related to workforce training, real estate, and the theft of used cooking oil.

Lamont had initially told reporters that he did not expect to veto any bills this year, but he added that it was subject to review by lawyers who closely read the bills passed in the final, hectic hours of the legislative session that ended on June 5.

Facing a signing deadline Friday, Lamont worked throughout the afternoon to finish the work from the regular session. The legislature will now convene on July 22 because the state constitution requires that the override session must be held on a Monday. It was unclear whether any bills would be overridden because lawmakers have not discussed the potential overrides in caucuses.

Overall, Lamont signed 223 bills this year out of 226 that were passed by both chambers. Those measures were distilled from thousands of bills that were proposed and were either blocked by various committees or failed to receive a vote from both chambers of the legislature.
