Delaware's Rehoboth Beach changes mask mandate after bookings plummet

City leaders at Delaware’s Rehoboth Beach said Tuesday that face coverings or masks are no longer required while individuals and families are on the beach or in the water.

A report by NBC 10 in Philadelphia suggested the move away from Delaware’s tighter restriction on beachgoers is the result of frustrated business owners and members of the local tourism industry who watched a slack July 4th crowd come and go.

Rehoboth officials required masks on the beach prior to the holiday weekend.

Members of the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach called the decision “a concerted effort to reduce crowds.”

fear of the virus. No masks would increase that fear. Our business partner looked online at all the hotel vacancies and decided it was safer to stay home. Loosening up the safety aspect is not going to help. It will be a bigger hotspot.

My vacation decision (meaning no vacation until there is a vaccine) is based upon the virus not a regions response to it.
